Battling the Fentanyl Epidemic

Waukesha County declared the use of fentanyl and other opioids a Community Health Crisis in 2022. Dan has been in a singularily unique position to see fentanyl's impacts upon Waukesha County even before that declaration. Dan regularly hears criminal cases involving not only the possession or sale of drugs but also the tragic outcomes of drug abuse, including violence and overdoses. Dan has presided over countless family cases where drug abuse has torn loved ones apart. In his work with the Addiction Resource Council and the Waukesha County Heroin Task Force, Dan has worked tirelessly to teach the public about the prevention and treatment of opioid use. With everyone's help and the leadership of people like Dan, the fentanyl epidemic can and will see its end.

Establishing a Veteran's Treatment Court

An Iraq veteran himself, Dan recognizes that Waukesha County would greatly benefit from the creation of a veteran's treatment court. Veterans face unique challenges, and these courts have the ability to connect vets in crisis with a multitude of services. Dan volunteered as a mentor in Racine's Veteran's Court and saw firsthand how the courts can help provide housing support, mental health services, treatment for addiction, and other lifesaving benefits. Our veterans risked everything to protect our American way of life, and we owe it to them to help in any way possible in their time of need.

Ensuring Victims' Rights are Followed

Dan has worked tirelessly to ensure crime victims are afforded all of their statutory and Constitutional rights. A member of the Crime/Victim Impact Panel, Dan was the only judicial officer in Wisconsin to attend not one but two state-wide conferences on the rights of victims. With that knowledge, along with years of having taught Constitutional Law to aspiring police officers, Dan is acutely aware of the intricate balance of honoring the rights of the accused and the rights of victims. He will always ensure the rights of all involved will be protected and ensured.
